China: Mother Cat Rescues Kitten From High Stone Wall

On May 17, 2025, in Zhejiang Province in eastern China, a video captured a tense rescue as a frightened kitten clung to vines on a high stone wall. Struggling to hold on, the kitten dangled precariously while its mother paced anxiously along the edge above. After searching in vain for a safe way down, the mother cat finally summoned her courage and jumped to the ground below. Moments later, the kitten lost its grip and slipped from the vines, landing safely beside her. Relieved, the mother gently picked up the kitten in her mouth and, using footholds and vines, carefully climbed back up the stone wall. The dramatic moment ended on a reassuring note as the pair reached safety together.

An ongoing restoration project of the Jiankou section of the Great Wall adopts a "simultaneous archaeology and restoration" approach, where archaeological work is completed on a section before restoration begins. The restoration project, with the participation of research institutions, universities and social organizations engaged in non-profit activities, is scheduled to be completed in 2026.
